Discounted Children's Dancewear for Dance Classes!

Posted by Brittany White on Sep 30, 2016 1:13:55 PM

When you are a dancer, it is tradition to be in tights, a leotard, and a tutu (depending on the style of dance). It has been that way for as long as dance has been around. It not only has been around to keep tradition, but because it is important to have the proper dance attire when taking any type of dance class.

As you may know dancewear can be costly, but it does not always have to be that way! If you go to a local dance store, it will most likely be more expensive. But don't fret, there are several places where you can find discounted dancewear for kids!  Keep in mind that it is essential to have the appropriate dance attire for each class.

Target

If you are not aware, Target is a discount retailer. There is a high chance that you may have come here for school supplies or clothes – boy, do they have cute clothes! What you may have not known about Target is that it not only has regular discounted clothes, but discounted dance clothes! You can find leotards, tights, tutus, and ballet shoes for cheap! Be aware that discounted kids dancewear will not always be available, however, and stock of kids dance shoes can be a hit or miss.

Payless

If you're looking for cheap dance shoes, check out Payless! Payless has more shoe variety than Target, plus they not only have ballet shoes, but tap shoes and jazz shoes as well! You can also find some cheap dance tights as well.

Discount Dance

Discount Dance is a dancewear mega store that offers brand name dance clothes for kids and adults, shoes, tights, recital costumes, and anything you can think of that is needed for dance! This is a great website to constantly look at because they always have discounted dancewear – I mean… their name has the word discount.

For those of you in Southern California, there are a couple physical stores as well: in La Mesa, CA and Santa Ana, CA. Staff are kids dancewear experts and they will help you figure out what clothes and shoes are appropriate for your child. That way you don't purchase shoes so small they can only be worn for a month, or too big that your kids are tripping over clown feet!

Why is it important to buy the right attire?

For classes such as ballet or tap, it is important that dancewear fits properly and comfortably; there should not be anything loose or baggy. This allows the teacher to see the child’s form and give corrections. Hair should be pulled back because it is important keep from hair falling on little faces to avoid any distractions. Concentration and focus are key to a successful class!

As far as hip hop classes, there is more freedom when it comes to what attire to wear! With this class, dress code is typically clothes that provide comfort and freedom of movement. Here is where you go for the bag and swag!

Following dress codes in dance classes is very important because it allows children to feel a part of a group or team. When they are all dressed appropriately, they will know that class is in session and will be ready to listen. Not only that, but they will feel like a dancer because they are dressing the part!

Note: Each studio can be different when it comes to dress codes because they might require a specific dress code to differentiate the level they are in.

The best thing to do before purchasing dancewear for your kid is to check with the instructors at your dance studio.

Posted by Brittany White on Sep 22, 2016 10:31:30 PM

Balboa Park is notorious for its art and culture. For many years, families have come to this area for its museums, gardens, attractions, and venues. There are events always happening and endless things to do near Balboa Park. They have the San Diego Natural History Museum, San Diego Museum of Art, Alcazar Garden, Botanical Building, Japanese Friendship Garden, San Diego Zoo, Balboa Park Carousel, Marie Hitchcock Puppet Theatre, and now a dance studio for kids!

Being a parent, children are priority. You think, “where can I take my kid today?” or “where can my kid play with other kids?”

Now that there are dance studios for kids near balboa park, that adds another activity to the list of things to do!

Why Should My Kid Dance at Balboa Park?

dancesummercamp2-1.jpgTrips to the San Diego Zoo or Balboa Park Carousel, require constant parental  supervision. Having a dance studio for toddlers near Balboa Park gives kids that opportunity to not only interact with other children, but move and grove with them (and gives parents a bit of a break)!

What is so fantastic about these dance classes for children near Balboa Park, is that it is near Balboa Park. If you are concerned about your child having too much energy during an outing to the Museum of Man, you might want to consider taking them to a dance class before to spend that energy. And what better way than through artistic expression?!

After your toddler finishes their dance class, you can take them to a museum they have never been to, or stroll through a garden while they demonstrate the new moves they learned!

It also is an excuse to see what attractions Balboa Park has every week!

Dance studios for kids adds a great addition to the art Balboa Park offers. Dance is an art because every dance tells a story. It is a story that you are able to tell without using your mouth, but your body. Of course, being young, children will not completely see the art that dance truly is, but it exposes them the different types of art there are in this world.

Why Should I Expose My Child to Art If They Don’t Understand It?

Just because they do not fully understand it, does not mean it is not important. Art is very important for early childhood development. Through art, kids are able to explore, observe, and imitate. Children learn how to control themselves and how to control their environments, which is an important skill to have.

Being able to explore and experiment can trigger toddler’s brains and activate their fine motor skills, cognitive development skills, and many other skills depending on the art.

Nowadays, schools have had budget cuts and, therefore, arts have been the first to go. Parents can still expose their child to various art in Balboa Park, such as dance, sculputre, photography or even fascinating architecture. Luckily for San Diego, we have a whole park full of art and culture!

How Will I Know If My Child Will Like Dancing?

You will never know unless you give it a shot! According to What To Expect, a pregnancy and parenting website, children are naturally attuned to sound and rhythm and will respond to music by smiling, swaying, bouncing up and down, or even clapping their hands. If you notice your child responding to music, it would be a good idea to have them try dance classes!

Benefits Within The Different Styles of Kids Dance Classes

Kids: they dance before they learn there is anything that isn’t music.” -William Stafford

Children are natural movers and shakers! Anyone who has children, younger siblings, or has babysat know they have bundles of energy. It takes them nearly a year to take their first steps, but once they’re on their feet, there is no stopping them!

Kids are constantly moving. They move to express their feelings or thoughts; when they’re happy, they tend to bounce up and down and when they’re sad or angry, they throw themselves on the ground. Children move to achieve mobility and for the sake of it! They don't always have full control of their movements but when they become aware and consciously structure their movements, it becomes dance.

Between the ages of 2 and 5, children are in a sensitive developmental stage and learn quickly. According to the Child Development Institute, parents are encouraged to prepare their kids for starting school. This includes interactions with other peers and basic learning skills. Regardless if it is between the ages of 2 and 5, parents can begin exposing their child to activities at any moment they feel most comfortable.

Children's dance classes are a great activity for kids to release and control the energy they have! Dance is a great exposure to understanding art, culture, and ourselves. It allows a person to gain a sense of power and relief. Not only is it a great form of exercise, but it benefits kids physically, cognitively, socially, and emotionally. The good thing about dance classes is that there are different types of dance and every day is different. We have different styles and age groups here at Dance To EvOLvE.

Tap Classes

Tap dancing is a very upbeat and hoppy style of dance. The unique part about this style is that it can be performed without music. If your child enjoys banging on objects or bouncing up and down, tap dance classes are a great way to use their feet like drums!

Ballet Classes    12002109_949039958472821_6478492261576882758_n-1.jpg

Ballet, on the other hand, is more structured and precise. The movements are more graceful and appear effortless. It requires a bit more control and concentration. Ballet dance classes can help children express themselves because every movement has a meaning. It also is a cool way to teach them a new language because French terminology is used!

Hip Hop Classes

HH_Freeze.jpeg

Hip hop classes are fun for kids because not every movement has to be the same as the kid next to them. Kids dance it the way they want and add their own funk to it. This dance style is another way for children to release their energy because it is a high energy dance class.

Kids dance classes are fun because most classes will have themes to enhance creativity and imagination. You can always check out which dance classes develop which skills.

Children enjoy playing and learning new things. Dance classes for kids give them that opportunity to explore and understand their bodies and self. The variety of dance styles and themes make children enjoy every moment they move and groove!

Have your child release their energy in a healthy and beneficial way and sign them up for dance classes today! Let them move freely and express themselves while also having fun! If you are hesitant about what classes to try out or unsure how your child will behave in each class, you can always sign up for a trial class here!
