Heck, your kid gets love and affection from you the other 364 days out of the year, so now it’s your time to have a little fun! 1. Stuff toilet paper in their dance shoes

This April Fool’s Day joke for children will have your kid thinking they grew over night! While your child is asleep, stuff toilet paper inside their dance shoes. As they are getting ready for dance class and putting their shoes on, they will have a startling surprise! Their feet can no longer fit in their shoes! This will definitely throw them off and make them believe they grew while they were sleeping. There is nothing better than messing with their minds!

2. Fill their closet with balloons

While your child is at school, fill their closet with balloons. When they go to get dressed for their San Diego dance class there will be a surprise waiting for them. 3.  Have Jell-O be their juice

After a fun filled dance class, your child might be a little thirsty. Prepare a nice after dance class snack for them with some juice to drink. The night before, make Jell-O and pour it into you child’s favorite cup. Put a straw in it so the Jell-O can form around it. When your child goes to drink their juice the next day, nothing will come up! See all long it will take for them to notice what you have done! Being creative is the best part about playing an April Fool’s Day joke for kids.

4. Put a For Sale sign on the front lawn

This next best April Fool’s joke for kids may require a bit more planning. If you can get your hands on a For Sale sign put it on your front lawn. Tell your child that you guys are moving away from San Diego and they will now be attending our Chicago dance class. Don’t let this prank last too long though, for we know how much kids love our dance classes and we don’t want them to get upset.

5. Cover the TV remote sensor with a piece of tape

The last prank can be beneficial to you and your family! When your child is not looking, place a piece of tape over the TV sensor. When they go and try to turn it on, it won’t work! Tell your child that the TV must be broken and you don’t know when it will be fixed. Now you can spend time with your child without having them be distracted. It’s a win-win! Maybe ask them to show some dance that they learned at dance class!

Now that you have a list of the best April Fool’s Day jokes for kids, it’s time to get started!! Just remember that this day is supposed to be fun and a day full of lots of laughs! summer dance campAs the weather warms up and schools let out for the summer, many parents find themselves searching for daytime activities for their children. There are so many options available, it can sometimes be overwhelming to choose. Summer dance camp is a wonderful choice for both boys and girls. With a variety of benefits: physical, mental, and social (we’ve listed five benefits below)...why not find a summer dance camp near you today?

1. Improved Learning Skills:

In dance class or summer dance camp, your child will develop the ability to focus and understand the concept of discipline. These skills learned through dance will carry into all areas of life, including both home and school settings. These educational skills learned and practiced in summer camp will stick with your child as he or she enters the new school year, and will lead to an improved academic performance!

2. Beat Summer Boredom!

While many children look forward to summer all year long, without a daytime activity, the days can tend to drag on. Summer dance camps provide a variety of fun for children as they learn new moves, play fun games, and develop creativity. As children experience new dance styles and learn new skills, they may just decide that dance is a hobby they’d like to stick with all year long!

3. Improved Social Skills:

2-3.jpgSummer dance camp is the perfect place for your children to make new friends. As your child gains self confidence, he/she will also become more comfortable meeting new people and building relationships. As children learn new dancing skills and choreography together, they learn to work as a team. Additionally, more reserved children can learn to overcome shyness and stage fright through fun performances often held at the conclusion of a camp session.

4. Improved Physical Health:

Dance is a form of aerobic activity; it is a sure way to keep your child moving and grooving for an extended period of time. According to a study conducted by Pro Dance Center, regular dance practice can also increase your child's flexibility, range of motion, physical strength and stamina. Enrolling in a summer dance camp provides your children with an opportunity to improve their balance and coordination, and it is a great way for them to begin developing healthy habits and healthy hearts!

5. Improved Self-Confidence:

Dance provides children with an outlet for self expression. Learning to express their feelings in a new way provides opportunity for improved self esteem. As children master new dance skills and become more aware of how their bodies work and move, they will gain a sense of accomplishment. The pride that comes with achievement prompts children to feel more confident in themselves! The confidence found in dancing is something that often sticks with children through out their entire lives.

Why Dancing is Essential in a 18 Month to 2 Year Old’s Development

Posted by Brittany White on Oct 14, 2016 11:14:06 AM

A child is never too young to start dancing! Dancing contributes to the development of a variety of fundamental skills in an 18 month to 2 year old child. The 18 month to 2 year old age group is now beginning to develop a sense of identity and personality, along with retaining information like a sponge! According to the Healthy Children Organization, that age group is now testing the limits of your rules and their own physical development! Putting your little one in a dance class will allow them to establish skills in social communication, teamwork, physical development, and cognitive thinking early on. There are various dance classes to choose from that will complement your child's specific age level and development!

Social Communcation:

Social Communication is not easily achievable. Dancing can allow any child to break out of their shell and get loose with other children that are in their age group! An 18 month old kid is now understanding the concept of playing with other children. In order to teach a child how to appropriately play, they must be exposed to instructions and teamwork settings early on. Dance classes for 18 months to 2 year olds provides them the opportunity to be able to communicate and interact with other kids and teachers. These essential life skills can be developed now from dance classes, and be applied throughout their life!

18 month - 2 year olds ballet dancing

Physical Development:

Trying to get a toddler to settle down is nearly impossible! This age group seems to always be jumping off the walls! At this point in development, 18 month olds have begun walking, and 2 year olds have officially mastered running! Dance classes, such as ballet class, benefits the development of coordination, strength, movement, motion and balance. The dance class for their age group utilizes multi-step movements that incorporate multiple muscle groups at the same time. Movement patterns require a child to use their entire body to reach a level of fitness that is unparalleled by other activities. Dance classes for 18 month to 2 year olds utilizes different types of dance to best benefit the development of your dancer! These 5 factors are tremendously crucial in the development of your child in order to stay safe while being active!

unspecified-2.jpegCognititve Development:

According to the Healthy Children Organization, an 18 month to 2 year old child is now beginning to grasp the concept of instructions and rules. Cognitive development allows your child to reciprocate instructions and rules and act on them. However, many children within this age group have a hard time initially digesting this concept. Dance classes for 18 months to 2 year olds prioritize critical and cognitive development in order to combat this issue. Therefore, this age group requires a different style of learning compared to the older children. Children's dance teachers specialize in early development, and are able to connect dancing to the development of common knowledge and life skills. For example, some teachers of dance classes for 18 month to 2 year olds will have the children leap over a "river", usually a scarf or mat, so they don't get wet. This allows the children to understand essential skills while having fun! This knowledge may be common to us, but this age group is now beginning to develop these everyday skills! There is no better way to develop cognitive development skills than dancing and having a blast!

Social communication, physical development, and cognitive thinking have significant roles in the development of your child. Dance classes for 18 month olds to 2 year olds can remarkably contribute to the development of these life skills early on. This time frame is a great time to expose a child to dancing in order develop skills in teamwork, sharing, caring and communicating with other children and teachers. Who knew something as fun as dancing could have such a significant role in children’s early development!

April Fool's Day Pranks You Can Play On Your Kids

Posted by Brittany White on Mar 29, 2016 10:27:44 AM

April Fool’s Day is one of the most overlooked holidays. I mean a holiday where you’re allowed to prank people all day? Even your kids? There are so many different practical jokes to play on your kids that will get a laugh out of them, and only a little bit of embarrassment. Here are a few ideas…

Food Pranks

There are so many ways you can prank your kids on April Fools Day with their food. One easy, but great idea is to fill up their cup with jello instead of juice. When they go to take a sip from the straw, they will be so confused! And, it’s a win for them too because then it turns into a yummy snack!

Jello.jpg

Food dye is a wonderful invention. You can put food dye in just about anything, and get some startled looks from your kids when they realize the milk is suddenly blue. Grab some dye from your local store and go crazy!

As they’re getting ready for their dance lesson, prepare a nice cereal snack for them. Make sure you make it a few hours early though, because you’re gonna need to stick it in the freezer for a while. Imagine their face when they try to get a big spoonful of Lucky Charms, only to realize it’s frozen.

                                       0038000128470_CL_version_type_large.jpeg

Mess with their Mind Pranks

These April Fool’s Day jokes will make your kids take a second look. If you have a good 20 minutes to spare, turn as much as you can in your house upside down. This means pictures, clocks, chairs, toys, anything you can think of! This will for sure throw them off.

When you pick up your kids from their dance school on April Fool's Day, make sure you have a crazy wig on! Whether it’s a hot pink afro, or a rockin’ mullet, you’ll be looking great and your kids will be the perfect amount of embarrassed in front of their dance friends.

Another funny idea would be to swap out their dance clothes with a larger size, causing them to think they have shrunk! This means their leotard, tutu, shoes, etc. Plus, you can use the bigger clothes later on!

Chicago

For those of you in Chicago, there are plenty of ways to use the city to your advantage on this holiday. If your child is a big fan of the Cubs, convince them their Chicago dance school got moved to Wrigley Field for the day! This one may cause some disappointment, but could still be funny as long as they have a good sense of humor. Same goes for the Soldier Stadium if they’re more of a Bears Fan.

                        wrigley-day-040512-sg-01-jpg.jpg

San Diego

There are endless possibilities for practical jokes in San Diego. One idea would be to convince them your family is going to be leaving the San Diego sun and moving to a much colder city in the middle of nowhere.

Snow_Landscape__.jpg

Another good one would be to tell them that they are unfortunately going to miss participating in the recital with their San Diego dance school, because you are going out of town. If you’ve ever been to recital before, you know that this is not something to be missed.

Now that you have all of these ideas in your mind, it’s time to get to work! Just remember that April Fool’s Day is supposed to be fun and be a day full of extra laughter! Create some more memories with your kids by pranking them in a way they will never forget, so they can pass the tradition on to their family one day!

How To Choose a Summer Camp

Posted by Brittany White on Feb 29, 2016 5:12:14 PM

With summer just around the corner, time is ticking and the pressure is on to find the right summer camp in San Diego for your kids! There are so many summer camp ideas for kids in San Diego...But don’t worry! You’re not alone and we have put a helpful guide together to help you choose a summer camp!

1.  The first and most important thing is the staff:

Every parent is worried about whom they will be leaving their children with all day and that is a completely normal and important concern. That is why it is important to look for a camp which hires experienced staff that will make you and your child feel comfortable. The more experience the better! Try and look for staff that is child friendly and will help your kids feel welcome when they come to camp alone. Other than the friendliness, make sure the camp leaders have been thoroughly inspected by the organization and have passed a security check. If you aren't sure as to what reputable staff looks like, take a look at the EvOLvE list of friendly teachers and read about how we select our awesome staff!

2.  Look at the goals:

When doing your summer camp planning, it is important to look for the goals that they have set for the children! Make sure summer is not only a time for fun but for learning as well. The best camps will provide a variety of activities for your children which will enhance your child’s learning skills, and improve their social skills along with teamwork! Look for a kids summer camp which really emphasizes the skills you would like your child to develop and is supportive in your child’s dreams!

3.  How hard do they push?

It seems like a weird question at first but it’s definitely one of some importance. During a day camp your child will be kept busy with different sorts of activities. Although these activities can be healthy and beneficial, it is important to not push children too hard and allow them plenty of breaks. Ask about the amount of breaks they will be getting throughout the day, how many potty breaks, snack breaks, etc. What about downtime? Is there a time in the schedule when the kids can take a break from all of the commotion and listen to a story or take a short nap? Even with just a day camp, kids might get overworked and tired so be sure to check if the kids summer camp you’re looking at provides the right combination of fun and relaxation. For a great reference on how a camp schedule should look like. Check out San Diego's EvOlvE's camp schedules and Chicago's camp schedules SummerCampSanDiego

4.  Communication

As a parent, it is not pleasant being left out of the loop and not knowing what your child is up to all day. Make sure that the camp you are looking at supports open communication between parents, staff and children. Also, as a parent, you want to stay included in the summer camp planning and have access to any information about your child at all times. It makes you feel comfortable and safe leaving your child in their hands every day.

5.  Fun!

Last but certainly not least, ask yourself if your child will really enjoy this camp! Don’t settle for an average summer camp. Summer is a time for adventure and fun, a time to let your child’s curiosity soar. Dance to EvOLvE prides itself on providing children opportunity to have an amazing time learning and creating with their wonderful teacher. Kids love it and it's not only fun but also beneficial for them. So talk with your children and find out exactly what they want and sign them up for a camp, such as a summer dance camp in San Diego that will provide them with a variety of activities, challenging and fun, and one that they will miss when they are finished! This will save a huge hassle of having to switch camps or rearrange plans!

Make the most of this summer and be smart with your decisions! We hope you consider some of these questions when searching for a summer camp in San Diego.

This air station is named Mitscher field after Admiral M.A. Mitscher who was a commander in World War II. Most people, however, know this site as the location where the movie, TOPGUN, was filmed, in response to the training program that was offered here.

In addition to TOPGUN, this air station is also home to the Miramar Air Show! This is one of San Diego's most popular events. At this show, visitors have the rare oppportunity of seeing the talented Blue Angels, the Navy's top pilots. Our new location, held at Flip Force, is literally right across the street from this Air Station. How Cool!

Flip Force is a multi-sport competition gym providing many kids activities in Miramar including cheer, tumbling, trampolines, and more! We are so lucky to partner with them to now provide families with more children's dance classes in Miramar.

Another great thing about our Miramar location is the surrounding shops! While your kids are in class, get a membership at the 24 Hour right down the street and get a workout in of your own! Or, UTC mall is only a short 10 minute drive away!  After class, grab some pizza at That's Amore or get some grocery shopping done at Miramar Cash and Carry!  Flip Force is also centrally located in San Diego between the 805 and the 15. This results in easy access from anywhere in the city. Miramar is a wonderful are and we are so excited to add to the list of kids activities in Miramar.

We hope you will take advantage of this new location and join us at Flip Force. Dance to EvOLvE is always seeking to enrich the lives of our students and make a positive impact on them. We also truly believe in the impact that dance has on kids. It helps them not only have a healthier lifestyle and improve their coordination, but also teaches them how to better express themselves and grow into the person they are meant to be.

We do have a FREE dance day available at this location! This free day is used as a teacher training day, so classes may be a bit larger than usual. However, it is a great way to see if your child enjoys the class and if it would be a good fit for them. Come check out the new kids dance studio in Miramar on Monday, March 7th by attending a risk-free trial! We will have a great variation of classes available to check out including ballet, hip hop, and tap for all ages. Click HERE to RSVP.
