Back to School Mood Chart

Posted by Dance To EvOLvE Team on Aug 18, 2017 6:17:59 PM

Summer is winding down and it is officially the “back to school season.” This time of year is always a whirlwind of emotions for parents and for kids. So we have created a Back to School Mood Chart so that you can pinpoint what exactly you are feeling and why!

Sadness

It is a sad moment that summer is ending. Days of camp, free play and warm weather are ending and it is natural to feel a little sad! Also a new school year means that your kids are getting older which sometimes is a little sad as well! It always seems too soon to say goodbye to your little ones, even though they will be your little ones forever no matter how big they get.

Happiness

Summer was wonderful. Full of family time, relaxing days and good memories! Now you are happy to continue on making memories during the new school year! It’s a new chapter in your and your kid’s lives but you are happy to see what good times it brings!

Joy

As summer ends that means finally your kidsare back at school! Finally time to just relax, or do all those little things around the house that you haven’t been able to do because your kids have been home! Or if you are a working parent finally you have a set schedule and do not have to pay for childcare anymore! It’s a joyous occasion! Celebrate!

Dread

Early mornings, packed lunches, shopping trips, homework sessions, and classroom drama (might) lie ahead. There are plenty of things about back to school and school that are not so fun and it is understandable to have a good amount of dread.

Anger

Maybe summer went by in a flash and many of your plans did not pan out and your to-do list is longer than ever. Or maybe the thought of spending a large chunk of change on back to school shopping trips is making your blood boil! There are many completely valid reasons to be angry during this time of the year.

Surprise

Summer is over already? Is it really time to go back to school? Time seems to be moving increasingly faster with every year so it is completely normal to be caught by surprise by September! Wasn’t just yesterday the last day of school?

Anxiety

Will they like their teacher? Will they have friends in their classes? Will they be able to handle the homework and new material? During this time of the year there is a lot of changes and newness in the near future, which can cause worry for both kids and parents. Just always assure yourself that you will make it through. Do not let being worried get the best of you!

Anticipation

With all these changes, it is normal to feel a sense of anticipation. With great new back to school activities, new friends, learning new things, and many more new experiences ahead it is wonderful to feel anticipation about the new school year!

Excitement

Along with the anxiety and worry that these changes can cause they can also cause excitement! A new year is exciting because of all these changes and the chance for wonderful new experiences! Not only at school but new after-school activities as well. This is a great time of year to try new after school activities! For example dance, music, sports, art are great new back to school activities for kids. Dance to EvOLvE is a great back to school activity for San Diego and Chicago kids.

During this time it is important to focus on the positive aspects of the back to school season including the chances to try new things and have a fresh start! New activities such as dance classes are a great part of a new school year so check out our fall class schedules:

What 2 and 3 year olds can gain from dance class

Posted by Brittany White on Apr 11, 2017 9:53:01 PM

Have you ever wondered what's the best age for your child to start dance class? Well, we think that a child is never too young to start dancing! Dancing helps them develop many important skills! Putting your 2 or 3 year old in a dance class will allow them to establish better social skills, physical development, and cognitive thinking early on. This age range is a great time to expose a child to dancing! We have various dance classes to choose from that will match your child's specific age level! Who knew something as fun as dancing could have such a significant role in children’s early development!

unspecified-6.jpeg

Social Skills:

Social skills can sometimes be hard for children to learn. Dance class allows kids to break out of their shell and let loose with other kids their age! In order to teach a child how to appropriately play with other kids, they must be exposed to instructions and teamwork settings early on. Dance classes can teach your child patience and listening skills, as they must follow instructions from their teacher. Dance classes for 3 year olds provide them the opportunity to be able to talk and interact with other kids and teachers. These essential life skills can be developed now from dance classes, and be applied throughout their life!

unspecified-3.jpeg

Physical Development:

Trying to get a toddler to settle down is nearly impossible! This age group seems to always be jumping off the walls. Whether it’s ballet, tap, or hip-hop, dancing has always been a great way for children to get moving and stay active. It allows them to channel their energy on something specific and have fun while doing it! Dance classes, such as ballet class, help with the development of coordination, strength, movement, and balance. Our dance classes for this specific age group use different movements that combine multiple muscle groups at the same time. Dance classes for 2 year olds use different types of dance to best benefit the development of your dancer!

unspecified-26.jpeg

Cognitive Development:

Your child is now beginning to understand the idea of instructions and rules. Cognitive development allows your child to respond to instructions and rules and then act on them. However, many children within this age group have a hard time understanding this notion. Heck even some adults do too! Therefore, dance classes for 2 to 3 year olds require a different style of learning compared to the older children. Our dance teachers specialize in early development, and are able to connect dancing to common knowledge and life skills. For example, some teachers will have the children leap over a "river", usually a scarf or mat, so they don't get wet. This allows the children to understand basic skills while having fun! This concept may be common to us, but this age group is just beginning to develop these everyday life skills! There is no better way for kids to mature and grow than by dancing and having a blast!

Here at Dance To EvOLvE, we offer a fun and creative learning environment in which your 2-3 year old can start developing essential life skill. As a teacher and founder of the toddler dance class here at EvOLvE, I can say without a doubt that my dancers never cease to amaze me. At the rate their minds are growing and expanding, this is a prime time for them to start learning dance and developing the motor and coordination skills that dance teaches! 2 and 3 year olds are very versatile and you’d be surprised at the vast amounts of knowledge that they can absorb!

5 Best April Fool's Day Jokes to Play on Your Kids

Posted by Brittany White on Mar 24, 2017 6:09:00 PM

April Fool’s Day is just around the corner and if you’re like me, you enjoy playing a little prank on your child! April 1st is the one-day out of the year that we get to act like kids too. Heck, your kid gets love and affection from you the other 364 days out of the year, so now it’s your time to have a little fun! Obviously we want to stay away from any pranks that may end in tears so here are 5 kid-friendly April Fool’s Day pranks that parents can play on their kids.

1. Stuff toilet paper in their dance shoes

This April Fool’s Day joke for children will have your kid thinking they grew over night! While your child is asleep, stuff toilet paper inside their dance shoes. As they are getting ready for dance class and putting their shoes on, they will have a startling surprise! Their feet can no longer fit in their shoes! This will definitely throw them off and make them believe they grew while they were sleeping. There is nothing better than messing with their minds!

2. Fill their closet with balloons

While your child is at school, fill their closet with balloons. When they go to get dressed for their San Diego dance class there will be a surprise waiting for them. The second they open the closet door they will be bombarded with balloons! They won’t have any idea what hit them (literally). Imagine their face when they see 20 balloons coming at them! This April Fool’s Day joke can sure be a priceless one!

3.  Have Jell-O be their juice

After a fun filled dance class, your child might be a little thirsty. Prepare a nice after dance class snack for them with some juice to drink. The night before, make Jell-O and pour it into you child’s favorite cup. Put a straw in it so the Jell-O can form around it. When your child goes to drink their juice the next day, nothing will come up! See all long it will take for them to notice what you have done! Being creative is the best part about playing an April Fool’s Day joke for kids.

4. Put a For Sale sign on the front lawn

This next best April Fool’s joke for kids may require a bit more planning. If you can get your hands on a For Sale sign put it on your front lawn. Tell your child that you guys are moving away from San Diego and they will now be attending our Chicago dance class. Don’t let this prank last too long though, for we know how much kids love our dance classes and we don’t want them to get upset.

5. Cover the TV remote sensor with a piece of tape

The last prank can be beneficial to you and your family! When your child is not looking, place a piece of tape over the TV sensor. When they go and try to turn it on, it won’t work! Tell your child that the TV must be broken and you don’t know when it will be fixed. Now you can spend time with your child without having them be distracted. It’s a win-win! Maybe ask them to show some dance that they learned at dance class!

Now that you have a list of the best April Fool’s Day jokes for kids, it’s time to get started!! Just remember that this day is supposed to be fun and a day full of lots of laughs! It’s important to create some memories with your kids by pranking them in a way they will never forget! Someday they will be able to pass the tradition on to their family!
