Posted by Brittany White on Mar 24, 2017 6:09:00 PM

April Fool’s Day is just around the corner and if you’re like me, you enjoy playing a little prank on your child! April 1st is the one-day out of the year that we get to act like kids too. Heck, your kid gets love and affection from you the other 364 days out of the year, so now it’s your time to have a little fun! Obviously we want to stay away from any pranks that may end in tears so here are 5 kid-friendly April Fool’s Day pranks that parents can play on their kids.

1. Stuff toilet paper in their dance shoes

This April Fool’s Day joke for children will have your kid thinking they grew over night! While your child is asleep, stuff toilet paper inside their dance shoes. As they are getting ready for dance class and putting their shoes on, they will have a startling surprise! Their feet can no longer fit in their shoes! This will definitely throw them off and make them believe they grew while they were sleeping. There is nothing better than messing with their minds!

2. Fill their closet with balloons

While your child is at school, fill their closet with balloons. When they go to get dressed for their San Diego dance class there will be a surprise waiting for them. The second they open the closet door they will be bombarded with balloons! They won’t have any idea what hit them (literally). Imagine their face when they see 20 balloons coming at them! This April Fool’s Day joke can sure be a priceless one!

3.  Have Jell-O be their juice

After a fun filled dance class, your child might be a little thirsty. Prepare a nice after dance class snack for them with some juice to drink. The night before, make Jell-O and pour it into you child’s favorite cup. Put a straw in it so the Jell-O can form around it. When your child goes to drink their juice the next day, nothing will come up! See all long it will take for them to notice what you have done! Being creative is the best part about playing an April Fool’s Day joke for kids.

4. Put a For Sale sign on the front lawn

This next best April Fool’s joke for kids may require a bit more planning. If you can get your hands on a For Sale sign put it on your front lawn. Tell your child that you guys are moving away from San Diego and they will now be attending our Chicago dance class. Don’t let this prank last too long though, for we know how much kids love our dance classes and we don’t want them to get upset.

5. Cover the TV remote sensor with a piece of tape

The last prank can be beneficial to you and your family! When your child is not looking, place a piece of tape over the TV sensor. When they go and try to turn it on, it won’t work! Tell your child that the TV must be broken and you don’t know when it will be fixed. Now you can spend time with your child without having them be distracted. It’s a win-win! Maybe ask them to show some dance that they learned at dance class!

Now that you have a list of the best April Fool’s Day jokes for kids, it’s time to get started!! Just remember that this day is supposed to be fun and a day full of lots of laughs! It’s important to create some memories with your kids by pranking them in a way they will never forget! Someday they will be able to pass the tradition on to their family!

Why not try a summer dance camp to take a break from the sun and heat? Summer dance camps typically allow kids to try different styles of dance, work quickly toward a performance, and learn in a fun, relaxing environment! We offer fun summer camps in San Diego and fun summer camps in Chicago as well! Read on to see why dancing in the summer is so much fun and helpful!

  1. Keep The Juices Flowing:

Throughout the school year, kids are learning all day, every day. Summer dance camps are a great resource to trigger their brains in a fun and athletic way through physical and observational learning. Students memorize sequences of steps, rhythm patterns in music, spacing, and formations, keeping those brains active! Studies show that when we make split-second, quick decisions (like when we dance), we create new neuron pathways that increase our intelligence. Give your kids a break from school but keep their minds engaged through dancing!

We all want to enjoy the sunshine this time of year but many kids appreciate some time out of the heat here and there. Children's dance camps typically take place inside cool buildings. They sometimes even come with snacks, lunch, games, and/or craft breaks which allows kids to go outside for fresh air. You can also switch up your summer camps a bit to give your child more variation to better deal with the heat!

In addtion, many kids dance camps offer a crash course to a specific style or they fuse several styles within a week and focus more on fun. If one style isn't a good fit for whatever reason, a dancer will quickly move on to another after a day or a week. If you are looking for serious improvement, check out a summer dance intensive at a summer camp in Chicago or San Diego.

Extra Curricular Activities for Kids in Chicago

Posted by Brittany White on Aug 10, 2016 11:10:52 AM

Summer is coming to an end soon which means school is on it’s way back into our lives. We all know parents are excited to get back their sanity, but for the kids, the world is coming to an end. Kids tend not to to be excited and to go back to school, but mostly they want to get their mind off it by doing extracurricular activities. Here are some ideas of activities they can do outside of school here in Chicago!

  1. Play ball!

soccer.jpg

Playing a sport can be self-fulfilling for kids. It teaches them how to be a team player, and how to be the best they can be in something they enjoy. They can get involved in school sports clubs or even go out and join teams that are not associated with the school. Maybe they can try something out of their comfort level and try different sports! If they love soccer, great, maybe they could also try tennis too! Usually soccer players can play tennis really well because of their coordination. Extra curricular activities like these are very beneficial for kids who have a lot of energy and for kids who need practice becoming more social. Whether it is basketball, tennis, or any type of sport, this will allow them to have fun while they also stay in shape!

  1. Music Lessons
music.jpg

Music is a great way for your child to be more cultural. Studies show that playing an instrument releases stress and improves your IQ. This leads to higher test scores because learning how to read music and understanding how to use the right side of your brain more makes kids become more intellectual. Piano lessons are the stereotypical instrument to practice as a kid, but they can try the drums, or even a ukulele! Give them an instrument to look forward to playing when they get home!

  1.  Community Service
community_service4.jpg

Getting involved in your community is a wonderful way to for your child to gain self pride knowing that they are doing something good. Whether it is volunteering at the local food and clothes closet, to cleaning up the shores of Lake Michigan, doing something that is noble teaches them how to give back and practice being kind and humble person. This will take their mind off the stresses of school and get them outdoors! They can sign up here to start volunteering! There are many organizations and activities they can do around Chicago!

  1.  Get Them Outside!
outside.jpg

Vitamin D is important for growing kids! They need to run around outside and use their imagination, because a healthy imagination leads to a happier and a more stress free child. Kids are only grow up once, this is their chance to roll around in the dirt and have fun while they are young. Take time out of their day where they are off their electronic devices and get them to go outside and enjoy the nature! Being stuck in a classroom all day for 5 days a week can be overwhelming, let them get some fresh air!

  1.   Get Them Moving and Grooving!
IMG_0361.jpg
