5 Reasons To Do A Summer Dance Camp

Posted by Brittany White on Feb 1, 2017 11:09:31 PM

How many parents out there are starting to think about your children's summer camps and vacations? Summer is filled with so many different options for families to explore. Kids (even the young ones) can participate in programs with many different time frame options allowing them to try something new for as long or little as they want. Why not try a summer dance camp to take a break from the sun and heat? Summer dance camps typically allow kids to try different styles of dance, work quickly toward a performance, and learn in a fun, relaxing environment! We offer fun summer camps in San Diego and fun summer camps in Chicago as well! Read on to see why dancing in the summer is so much fun and helpful!

  1. Keep The Juices Flowing:

Throughout the school year, kids are learning all day, every day. Summer dance camps are a great resource to trigger their brains in a fun and athletic way through physical and observational learning. Students memorize sequences of steps, rhythm patterns in music, spacing, and formations, keeping those brains active! Studies show that when we make split-second, quick decisions (like when we dance), we create new neuron pathways that increase our intelligence. Give your kids a break from school but keep their minds engaged through dancing!

  1. Give Them A Sun Break:

We all want to enjoy the sunshine this time of year but many kids appreciate some time out of the heat here and there. Children's dance camps typically take place inside cool buildings. They sometimes even come with snacks, lunch, games, and/or craft breaks which allows kids to go outside for fresh air. You can also switch up your summer camps a bit to give your child more variation to better deal with the heat!

  1. Explore New Dance Styles:

Many parents are interested in short commitments for their children until they find what they are truly passionate about. Summer is the perfect time to try new dance styles like ballet, tap, and hip hop to see what really gets a kid moving! There's no school that prevents kids from exploring their interests and so many camps are offered! In addtion, many kids dance camps offer a crash course to a specific style or they fuse several styles within a week and focus more on fun. If one style isn't a good fit for whatever reason, a dancer will quickly move on to another after a day or a week. If you are looking for serious improvement, check out a summer dance intensive at a summer camp in Chicago or San Diego.

  1. Get Maximum Creativity:

If your child is drawn to creativity, children’s summer dance camps are a perfect fit! Kids get numerous chances to share their creativity through new movements, games, arts and crafts, and songs. Some children's dance camps even involve costume design, choreography mentoring, and hair and makeup techniques for the stage!

  1. Make New Friends:

Dancing creates a team-like atmosphere because the participants must work together to create the finished product. Because camps tend to be half day, many kids will schedule play dates with new friends after your children's summer camp too! This is a great way for kids to make new friends and create special memories that will last a life-time!

New Children’s Dance Classes in Chicago

Posted by Brittany White on Nov 29, 2016 4:53:14 PM

The Windy City has new children’s dance classes available! Here at Dance To EvOLvE, we are proud to announce that we will be holding kids dance classes in Rogers Park beginning January 2017. Additionally, we will also be hosting after school/daycare programs where your children can dance with us!

If you’re on the fence about signing your child up for kid’s dance classes, check out the reasons we encourage even the littlest ones to start dancing! Here, we have put together great information about the benefits of dance at an early age. It introduces kids to a different way of thinking, expands their socialization skills and keeps them physically healthy.

DTEchildballerina.jpg

What Dancing Does at a Young Age

While you might think that your children are too young to be taking dance classes, think of all the benefits that dance brings along. Dancing allows children the freedom of expression in a way few other activities can. This can often open up a new perspective of thinking that will carry on with them throughout their lives. Examined Existence, a website that studies the different activities that affect the human body, states that “experts from Stanford University say that dancing is great at involving all the brain functions simultaneously – from musical and kinesthetic, to rational and emotional.” Not only does dance help young individuals feel more confident in expressing themselves and utilizing their mind, but overall young dancers have a major advantage of unlocking their fullest potential. Children’s dance classes help those who want to learn the true art form of expression the opportunity to channel their skill and energy into a positive and grand spectrum. As an added bonus, allowing them to exhaust all their energy in a kid’s dance class instead of home means less clean up work and a happier/healthier child (and parent for that matter)!

ballet_dance_classes_for_kid.jpg

The Importance of Arts Within a Community

When it comes to the arts, The Windy City is blowing us away with their new innovative and intricate mindsets.  Whether it be music, drawing or children's dance classes, these mindsets often stem from young individuals that make an impact within the community. Allowing for a community to build means a better future, which is the true purpose of art. In Strengthening Communities Through Dance by Dee Decker, the author states “Many key principles of social interaction including creativity and teamwork are displayed at community dances.  Dancers are allowed to express their creativity in a nonverbal format. [...] Through dance, we are laying the foundation to share in the camaraderie, to be healthier, and to strengthen communities.”

Art allows for individuals to come together to build, create, and discover. Within a community we build relations with one another, we create memories that will last us a lifetime, and we discover ourselves. Be involved in your community by signing your child up for kid’s dance classes and watch the social connections blossom!

How Can I Make Sure My Child Fully Expresses Themselves

Allowing your child to stray from daily routine by putting them in some extracurricular activity that they enjoy is the first step. The second step is to make sure that your child works to their fullest potential, which means balancing work, nutrition, and fun. The third step, which is the most important step, is to guide them throughout the process and in life in general. It’s not enough to just hold their hands or to sign them up for what you see as beneficial, but actually get involved. Parental Rights, a website that delivers information to protect children by empowering parents states, “students with involved parents tend to earn higher grades, have better social skills, and are more likely to graduate and go on to post-secondary education.” So this means that the parent cheering for their child during a basketball game or practicing dance drills with them before a recital is more encouraging than the parent that just lets their child run amuck. Get involved with your children, because to them you're irreplaceable.

Summer is the time when kids’ imagination run wild and they can be anything they want to be. This is the season where they make the most unforgettable memories, so make sure they do a lot of fun activities where they can learn and use their imagination. Watch them have fun and be kids because they grow up so fast! So here are some summer activities for toddlers in San Diego and Chicago you could do!

  1. Go To The San Diego Zoo or Lincoln Park Zoo!ZOO.png

The zoo is a great summer activity with your kid or toddler because there are many things you can see and do! Learning about animals and seeing them in person is a great way for your kid to learn and explore what our oceans and lands consist of! Going to the zoo helps your children learn about how the zoo helps take care of endangered species and protects them from harm. Being with these amazing animals can bring fun to your day and maybe even a new passion for your kid!

  1.   Head To Balboa Park Museums or the Chicago History Museum!Museum_.png

Going to any museum, whether it’s history, science, or art, is a great summer activity for kids that can bring out a hidden passion in your child. Every museum has something special about it and going there can uncover something that you never thought would interest you. Museums are super cool because you learn a lot about what the museum is about. Plus, going to a lot of different museums can help your kid become more well rounded culturally and intellectually. Check out the Chicago History Museum and find out about Illinois' own President Lincoln and "Lincoln's Chicago". Balboa Park in San Diego is also a great place because it has many museums and has unique architecture. It’s good for young kids to learn about things they never heard before and it gives them a sense of accomplishment and interest in different subjects and it is a great summer activity for kids in San Diego and Chicago.

  1.   Cool Off At Mystic Waters or Aquatica!waterpark.png

A great way to stay cool this summer and to burn some toddler energy is to head to the nearest water park or local pool! Swimming is a great summer activity for kids in Chicago and San Diego and teaching toddlers to swim is very important! Kids should ideally be swimming on their own at around age 6. Plus, if the summer heat is getting to you, it’s a great way to stay cool while teaching your child a very important life lesson. If you want to have some more fun, head to a waterpark! Although swimming is fun, both Mystic Waters Family Aquatic Center in Chicago and Aquatica in San Diego have fun water slides and cool activities for your kid and for you to enjoy as well!

  1.   Head To Your Local Body of Water       Beach.png

Going to the beach, lake, or even river can be a lot of fun for the family! If you are in San Diego head to Coronado or somewhere along the coast so your family can stay cool under that marine layer. Or maybe if you are in Chicago, head to Lake Michigan! You can head in the water, tan, or even have a nice picnic. It’s a great way to spend your time outside while having your kids run around and enjoy the summer sun. All of these waterways are free for us to use so take advantage of it! So go cool off, and get outside with the family and bring some beach games for all of you to enjoy as a fun activity for your kid or toddler.

  1.   Stay In And Build A Fort!                         Fort.png

Want to just stay in your air conditioned home but still do a fun summer activity for kids? Get some sheets and blankets and build a fort! It is so much fun to build and you can make a game out of it saying your fort is actually a pirate ship or maybe a tent in the jungle. This gets your kid to explore their imagination and create fun memories with you. You can watch movies in the tent or many other fun activities. This is a fun bonding moment to spend with your kid and it will create a lot of fun memories. Plus, and added bonus is that they may want to stay in their "secret fort" with "no parents allowed" which frees you up read a book (or more likely clean the kitchen).

  1.     Sign Them Up for Summer Dance Classes and Camps Kids_dance.png

Dancing is a great way to let your toddler find him or herself. Dancing at a young age can help them gain self-esteem and create a better focus, and is a great summer activity. Rhythm and dancing is a wonderful talent to have because it gets them moving around and they have fun while doing it. Dancing is in a way better than actual sports because you have the chance to be creative, make something of your own, and learn something new everyday. One of the best things about dancing is that there are no limits, you can tell a story through movement, and that is what makes it unique. Sign up your child for some fun dance classes or summer dance camps and you will have fun watching them grow. It is a wonderful summer activity for kids in San Diego and Chicago.

Summer activities for toddlers in San Diego and Chicago are everywhere if you look! Your kids will have a blast by dancing the summer away and much more! April Fool's Day Pranks You Can Play On Your Kids

Posted by Brittany White on Mar 29, 2016 10:27:44 AM

April Fool’s Day is one of the most overlooked holidays. I mean a holiday where you’re allowed to prank people all day? Even your kids? There are so many different practical jokes to play on your kids that will get a laugh out of them, and only a little bit of embarrassment. Here are a few ideas…

Food Pranks

There are so many ways you can prank your kids on April Fools Day with their food. One easy, but great idea is to fill up their cup with jello instead of juice. When they go to take a sip from the straw, they will be so confused! And, it’s a win for them too because then it turns into a yummy snack!

Food dye is a wonderful invention. You can put food dye in just about anything, and get some startled looks from your kids when they realize the milk is suddenly blue. Grab some dye from your local store and go crazy!

As they’re getting ready for their dance lesson, prepare a nice cereal snack for them. Make sure you make it a few hours early though, because you’re gonna need to stick it in the freezer for a while. Imagine their face when they try to get a big spoonful of Lucky Charms, only to realize it’s frozen.

Mess with their Mind Pranks

These April Fool’s Day jokes will make your kids take a second look. If you have a good 20 minutes to spare, turn as much as you can in your house upside down. This means pictures, clocks, chairs, toys, anything you can think of! This will for sure throw them off.

When you pick up your kids from their dance school on April Fool's Day, make sure you have a crazy wig on! Whether it’s a hot pink afro, or a rockin’ mullet, you’ll be looking great and your kids will be the perfect amount of embarrassed in front of their dance friends.

Another funny idea would be to swap out their dance clothes with a larger size, causing them to think they have shrunk! This means their leotard, tutu, shoes, etc. Plus, you can use the bigger clothes later on!

Chicago

For those of you in Chicago, there are plenty of ways to use the city to your advantage on this holiday. If your child is a big fan of the Cubs, convince them their Chicago dance school got moved to Wrigley Field for the day! This one may cause some disappointment, but could still be funny as long as they have a good sense of humor. Same goes for the Soldier Stadium if they’re more of a Bears Fan.

San Diego

There are endless possibilities for practical jokes in San Diego. One idea would be to convince them your family is going to be leaving the San Diego sun and moving to a much colder city in the middle of nowhere.

Another good one would be to tell them that they are unfortunately going to miss participating in the recital with their San Diego dance school, because you are going out of town. If you’ve ever been to recital before, you know that this is not something to be missed.

Now that you have all of these ideas in your mind, it’s time to get to work! Just remember that April Fool’s Day is supposed to be fun and be a day full of extra laughter! Create some more memories with your kids by pranking them in a way they will never forget, so they can pass the tradition on to their family one day!

5 Reasons To Do Summer Dance Camps

Posted by Brittany White on Mar 25, 2016 11:07:35 AM

How many parents out there are starting to think about summer camps and vacations?! Summer is filled with so many different options for families to explore. Kids (even the young ones!) can participate in programs with many different time frame options allowing them to try something new for as long or little as they want. Why not try a summer dance camp to take a break from the sun and heat? Summer dance camps typically allow kids to try different styles of dance, work quickly towards a performance, and learn in a fun, relaxing environment. Read on to see why dancing in the summer is such a fun time of the year!

1. Keep The Juices Flowing

Throughout the school year kids are learning all day, every day. Summer dance camps are a great resource to trigger their brains in a fun and athletic way through physical and observational learning. Students memorize sequences of steps, rhythm patterns in music, spacing, and formations, keeping those brains active! Studies show that when we make split-second, quick decisions (like when we dance), we create new neural pathways that increase our intelligence. Give your kids a break from school but keep their minds engaged through dancing!

2. Give Them A Sun Break

We all want to enjoy the sunshine this time of year but many kids appreciate some time out of the heat here and there. Dance camps  typically take place inside with maybe a snack, lunch, game, or craft break outside for fresh air. Switch up your summer camps a bit and give your child some variation for dealing with the heat.Creative_Explorers_Summer_Dance_Camp.jpg

3. Explore New Dance Styles

Many parents are interested in short commitments for their children until they find what they are truly passionate about. Summer is the perfect time to try new dance styles like ballet, tap, and hip hop to see what really gets a kid moving! Many dance camps offer a crash course to a specific style or they fuse several styles within a week and focus more on fun. If one style isn't a good fit for whatever reason, a dancer will quickly move on to another after a day or a week. If you are looking for serious improvement, check out a summer dance intensive.

4. Get Maximum Creativity

If your child is drawn to creativity, summer dance camps are a perfect fit! Kids get many chances to share their creativity through movement, games, arts and crafts, and songs. Some dance camps even involve costume design, choreography mentoring, and hair and make-up techniques for the stage!

5. Make New Friends

Dancing creates a team-like atmosphere because the participants must work together to create the finished product. Because camps tend to be half day, many kids will schedule play dates with new friends after camp too! This is a great way for kids to make new friends and create special memories that will last a life time!

You can find dance camps through your local studios, community centers, or creative arts programs. Do a search online and see what kinds of options you have for this summer! Registration typically starts early so stay ahead of the game and reserve your spot!  We hope this helped and if you have any questions or comments please feel free to let us know!
