Sydney S.

EvOLvE Teacher

Sydney has been teaching dance since the age of thirteen, beginning as a class assistant at her local dance studio before organizing and leading her own classes. Since then, she has taught both theatre and dance at multiple studios and theatres, including Little Apple Arts in Maplewood, NJ, and Porchlight Music Theatre.
Sydney is passionate about using dance to help children explore and understand their emotions. She often incorporates conversations about feelings and body awareness directly into class activities and games. One of her favorite activities is “emotion charades,” where dancers take turns acting out different emotions and pairing them with a dance move. Through experiences like this, Sydney encourages students to recognize what their bodies need and express themselves through movement.
She is especially intentional about helping shy students feel comfortable and included. Sydney loves asking dancers what makes them smile or what inspires them to sing and dance, then weaving those ideas into the class to build confidence and connection within the group.
Sydney’s favorite part of teaching is watching a child begin to understand their body’s cues and discover how movement can help them feel strong, joyful, and confident
Outside of the studio, Sydney loves arts and crafts. While she jokes that she may not be the best at drawing, crocheting, or knitting, the creative process brings her joy and for her, that’s what truly matters
