There are so many things to see and do in San Diego’s La Jolla. Here’s our pick of activities.
Head to La Jolla Shores
La Jolla Shores is a very popular place to go because of its beach town feel and its pristine beach. There are many surf shacks and gift shops to explore so you can never get bored! Kellogg Park is located near the shores and it has a playground so your kids can run around and play. La Jolla Shores is a great place if you love to surf. There are plenty of waves you can catch. Not a surfer? It’s also a perfect place to relax and listen to the sound of the crashing waves. Tto see some wildlife head next door to La Jolla Cove which is home to local Sea Lions. You can go scuba diving, snorkeling, the options are limitless!
Visit the Birch Aquarium
The Birch Aquarium is visited by an average of 435,000 people per year and is known for their prestigious Oceanography studies. You can see up to 380 species of ocean life and feed some animals. There are fun summer camps, school programs, and aquarium classes they can take! The aquarium is a great place to learn about the ocean’s animals and how we can protect them.
Go to The Salk Institute
The Salk Institute is a school of biological research located in La Jolla, right next to the Torrey Pines Gliderport. It is celebrated for its research, unique architecture and breathtaking views. You are free to roam around outside the labs and offices and enjoy the beauty of the campus. Be sure to grab lunch there and watch the paragliders roam the sky as you look out onto the ocean right on the edge of campus.
See a play at the La Jolla Playhouse
This is a professional theater on the campus of the University of California, San Diego. There are many plays that are available to see at the La Jolla Playhouse; some professional, and some put together by kids, teenagers, and college students. The theater was named ‘America’s Outstanding Regional Theatre’ in the 1993 Tony Awards. Theater, like dance, is a creative way of storytelling, which is something your kids will love!
Take a dance class at Doyle and Noble Recreation Center
Dance to EvOLvE has a location at Doyle Recreation Center offering kids and toddlers in La Jolla an array of dance classes. We offer many dance classes from hip hop to ballet! Classes start as young as two years old, so come and check us out. We have a lot of kids dance studios all around San Diego, and now we have a home in La Jolla. Nobel Recreation Center has an amazing playground and a wonderful big field that you can do all sorts of activities on! You can have a picnic and play on the playground after your dance class! Come out and take your kids to the best kids dance studio in La Jolla.

“We first discovered Dance to EvOLvE through a free dance program they put on at the local library. Since then, my daughter has been taking a Tiny Movers class for almost a year now (tap/ballet combo) and she absolutely loves it! Miss Amy is an AWESOME teacher! She is very knowledgeable about dance and makes the classes fun, age-appropriate, and encouraging for the kids. We’ve done a few makeup classes also and all the other teachers we encountered were so friendly, professional, and great with the kids. The company makeup policy is very flexible, which was so helpful when we had to miss class due to illness or travel. My daughter recently participated in her first recital and it was SO GREAT! The teachers did an incredible job preparing for a quality show. The dances were eclectic, the costumes were top-notch, the price was reasonable, and the kids seemed to have a great time! From the moment I met Brittany and she presented her teaching concept to me, I was sold! EvOLvE staff did not just instruct dance, but showed the students how to choreograph their own dances, a skill and talent that will last them their lifetimes. “My daughter is constantly playing ‘I’m Ms. Sara and you’re taking my dance class.’ She uses all the terms she has learned– passé, arabesque, heel-toe, etc. and leads her little sister, her dad and myself in a class, helping us out if we are doing a move incorrectly. She has now moved up to the Star Shiners class, and is learning a lot. She loves practicing her moves at home. If you are looking for a non-competitive and fun environment to learn dance, this is a great option.”
