Culture fix: Wilbur Cahoon House
This Greek revival house was built by Wilbur Cahoon, Avon’s first permanent settler. Today the Cahoon House serves as a museum. It represents all of the first families who began arriving in Avon in the 1800s.
Take a walk: Prayers from Maria Sunflower Field
Don’t miss Prayers From Maria’s field, a beautiful field of sunflowers in Avon that attracts thousands of people to pray, take pictures, and support an important cause. This beautiful sunflower field is named after Maria McNamara who died from terminal glioma.
After her death, Maria’s family started the Prayers from Maria Children’s Glioma Cancer Foundation to help raise funds for children diagnosed with childhood brain tumors. In 2013, the foundation planted this sunflower field in northeast Ohio as a way to raise awareness of the lack of funding for childhood brain cancer.
Shop to it: The Shoppes of Olde Avon Village
Forget traipsing the avenues and aisles of Cleveland’s mega malls and head to The Shoppes of Olde Avon Village for a far more civilized shopping experience.
The stores are housed in a series of restored 1850s homes and sell everything from antiques and collectibles to gourmet food items, home furnishings, and more. Happy shopping!
Best bites: Tree House Gallery & Tea Room
The family-owned Tree House is located in a restored 1850 house in the heart of Olde Avon Village. Locals flock here for huge portions of soups, salads, wraps, and heavenly cakes. Do yourself a favor and arrive with an appetite!

Since then, my daughter has been taking a Tiny Movers class for almost a year now (tap/ballet combo) and she absolutely loves it! Miss Amy is an AWESOME teacher! We’ve done a few makeup classes also and all the other teachers we encountered were so friendly, professional, and great with the kids. She has now moved up to the Star Shiners class, and is learning a lot. She loves practicing her moves at home. If you are looking for a non-competitive and fun environment to learn dance, this is a great option.”
