Different dance styles and their benefits

Kids: they dance before they learn there is anything that isn’t music.”

William Stafford

Children are natural movers and shakers. Anyone who has children, younger siblings, or has babysat knows they have bundles of energy. It takes them nearly a year to take their first steps, but once they’re on their feet, there’s no stopping them.

Kids are constantly moving. They move to express their feelings or thoughts. When they’re happy, they tend to bounce up and down. When they’re sad or angry, they throw themselves on the ground. They don’t always have full control of their movements but when consciously structure their movements, it becomes a dance.

Between the ages of two and five, children are in a sensitive developmental stage and learn quickly. According to the Child Development Institute, parents are encouraged to prepare their kids for starting school. This includes interactions with other peers and basic learning skills.

Children’s dance classes are a great activity for kids to release and control the energy they have. Dance is a great exposure to understanding art, culture, and ourselves. Not only is it a great form of exercise, but it benefits kids physically, cognitively, socially, and emotionally. We have different styles and age groups here at Dance To EvOLvE.

Tap dance classes:

Tap dancing is a very upbeat and happy style of dance. The unique part about this style is that it can be performed without music. If your child enjoys banging on objects or bouncing up and down, tap dance classes are a great way to use their feet like drums!

Ballet dance classes:

On the other hand, ballet is more structured and precise. The movements are more graceful and appear effortless. It requires a bit more control and concentration. Ballet dance classes can help children express themselves because every movement has a meaning. It also is a cool way to teach them a new language because French terminology is used!

Hip hop dance classes:

Hip hop classes are fun for kids because not every movement has to be the same as the kid next to them. Kids hip hop dance it the way they want and add their own funk. This dance style is another way for children to release their energy because it is a high-energy dance class.

Kids’ dance classes are fun because most classes will have themes to enhance creativity and imagination. Children enjoy playing and learning new things. Dance classes for kids give them that opportunity to explore and understand their bodies and self. The variety of dance styles and themes make children enjoy every moment they move and groove!

Have your child release their energy in a healthy and beneficial way and sign them up for dance classes today! Let them move freely and express themselves while also having fun! If you are hesitant about what classes to try out or unsure how your child will behave in each class, get in touch!
