Plato once said: “Of all the arts, dance is the one that most influences the soul’. And who are we to argue with the Ancient Greek philosopher?!
Whether your little ones want to try tap, ballet, hip-hop, or another style altogether, dance releases positive energy.
With ‘normal’ life resuming, allow us to (re)introduce you to Shaker Heights…
The low-down on Shaker Heights
Our home in Shaker Heights – affectionately termed ‘Shaker’ – over on the east side of town, is Thornton Park at 3301 Warrensville Center Road. Here we offer classes like Magical Munchkins Tap & Ballet, Dream Dancers Ballet, and more! Shaker Heights isn’t just about Dance to Evolve though (we promise)!
Be sure to seek out Shaker Square which hosts a full schedule of events throughout the year. Don’t miss the Mosaic festival, which celebrates Shaker’s diversity every June, and the annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony.
For a culture fix, take the family on a self-guided tour of the Shaker Historical Society. Founded in 1947, the SHS interprets the history of the Shakers who once lived here. Expect to see furniture and artifacts from North Union and other Shaker communities. Tours are self-guided (note that group tours must be arranged in advance).
Next up, it’s time to get on your bike! Shaker is one of only 13 Ohio communities to have been designated as a Bicycle Friendly Community by the League of American Bicyclists and its Bicycle Friendly America program. We love the Horseshoe Lake Park Trail – a 1.3 mile that takes in a natural playground, rain garden, picnic pavilions, and more.
Ready to refuel after all that exercise? We have a soft spot for Zanzibar whose soulful menu includes staples such as chicken waffles, jerk chicken, fried green tomatoes, and more. All told, Shaker is an underrated gem.
